Message from the Dean

Charles Hoffman

Welcome to the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the College of Business Administration.  Having earned my BS and MBA from UMSL, I can testify to the quality of the faculty and programs, and how they prepared me for a long, successful, satisfying business career. As further validation, the college is accredited by the world's premier business school accrediting organization, the AACSB (Association to Advance College Schools of Business) in both business and accounting; less than 2% of business schools worldwide have achieved this dual accreditation. The Princeton Review ranks us in the top 3% of business schools in the nation. U.S. News and World Report continues to rank our international business program among America’s top 20 – for 14 years running. Our graduate business program is ranked by Military Times among the top 25 “Best for Vets” programs. And, the National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have designated our cybersecurity program as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CD), making UMSL one of only two institutions in Missouri with this designation.

UMSL Business is always evolving to meet the needs of our students and to better prepare you for career success. Here is just a sampling of what is going on in the college:

  • In May 2016, nearly 400 UMSL Business students graduated, joining our body of alumni, over 27,000 strong! Based on a 2015 survey by UMSL career Services, 100% of Accounting and 92.5% of all business undergraduate alumni have jobs or are pursuing a graduate degree within 6 months of graduation.
  • UMSL’s first-ever dedicated Business building, Anheuser-Busch Hall, is under construction with expected completion for fall 2017. This new space will bring teaching and administration under one roof and give students easy access to advising, state of the art classrooms, and plenty of collaboration space.
  • In an exciting partnership with LaunchCode, beginning October 24th we’ll host a free 20-week tech training program aimed at getting people the hands-on skills to pursue tech careers.  Details are at LaunchCode.org/LC101.
  • As part of the UMSL Accelerate program, we continue to expand offerings in entrepreneurship education including cross-disciplinary courses in business and social entrepreneurship; the program recently secured a grant to introduce an innovative international entrepreneurship program. And the 2016-17 year ushers in a third cohort of the UM Entrepreneurial Scholars Internship Program which offers students mentorship and funding to get their ideas off the ground.

If you are an undergraduate student considering UMSL, I encourage you to explore our website to check out our undergraduate program offerings in management, marketing, accounting, finance, information systems, logistics & operations management, and international business

Are you interested in graduate school?  Our Flex MBA program is delivered by an outstanding faculty possessing a powerful combination of formal academic training and relevant business experience.  Our exciting cohort-based PMBA 2.0 has received numerous accolades and offers a unique blended format which allows you to maximize your time. Look for more information on our Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program launching in fall 2017.

At UMSL, we are well-known for producing hard working, well-prepared graduates.  As the global marketplace evolves, we will continue to ensure that our students are well grounded in the impacts of the latest technologies and in the leadership attributes needed to ensure success.

Whether you are looking for a place to start your business education, want to further advance your career through the pursuit of a graduate degree, or are interested in other learning opportunities, please explore all that UMSL Business has to offer.
